Volunteer Information

Community Involvement is an important key in staying active, keeping current, and making a difference in the lives of those around you. The Washington Township Recreation Department offers many volunteer opportunities throughout the year -- from a few hours a year to a regular schedule each week.

Volunteer Positions:

Youth Sports Head Coach: Attendance at all games & practices (includes Saturdays), fundamental knowledge of the sport, ability to communicate promptly and positively with parents, participants, official and league coordinator. Must be at least 17 years of age.

Youth Sports Assistant Coach: Regular attendance at games and practices (includes Saturdays), fundamental knowledge of the sport, ability to communicate promptly and positively with parents, participants, official and league coordinator. Must be at least 15 years of age.

Wall Belayers: Volunteer will assist the open climb supervisor with belaying climbers, set up and tear down of the wall and light maintenance. Must be at least 15 years of age and capable of passing a climb/belay certification course. 

Program Assistant: Volunteers willing to share their recreational experience and knowledge may work with a class instructor to conduct activities, events, clinics, classes or clubs must have experience in the program area.

Back Stage Crew: Each show, our staff selects and trains an elite group of volunteers to work backstage. We need light board operators, sound mixers, follow-spot operators and costume, props and shift crew. Must be at least second grade and older.

Theatre Ushers: Ushers help seat our patrons, tear tickets and sell concessions during intermission. Ushers receive a complimentary ticket to see that day's performance. Must be at least 13 years of age.

Woodland Lights: From stringing lights to selling tickets, volunteers are vital to the success of the annual, month-long festival that usually takes place the day after Thanksgiving through December 30. In addition to lights and tickets, volunteer jobs include decorating Santa's cabin, greeting visitors, serving as park monitors, and entertaining the crowds as costumed characters.

Enrichment Center: Share your friendly, outgoing personality at the front desk. Answer phone calls, greet patrons, take class registrations, and replenish the coffee bar. Or, help homebound older adults get where they need to go by driving them to the center, grocery stores, medical appointments and on personal errands.
