9/24/2024 Update:
Primary construction on Turtle and Heron Ponds is completed! This phase of the project included:
- The dredged removal of over 7,000 cubic yards of material from both ponds
- Trucked in nearly 2,000 cubic yards of stone to stabilize the banks
- The creation of half an acre of natural wetlands
- The establishment of almost 140 feet of perennial stream to connect the two ponds more naturally
- Construction of 7 fishing access platforms
- Installation of a barrier berm along the east side of the park boundary
- The creation of a natural forebay which will work to prevent future siltation of the ponds.
Work is now expected to pause on the ponds as we allow them to naturally fill and reestablish themselves over the summer. When the weather is more favorable this fall, the wetlands and landscaping will be completed. The installation of a new pedestrian bridge over Heron Pond and a boardwalk/fishing pier at Turtle Pond will be completed as well.
