Ready to make a real difference? Become a certified American Red Cross Lifeguard at the Washington Township RecPlex. Once obtained, this certification lasts for 2 years and allows the candidate to apply for lifeguarding positions.
The primary purpose of the course is to provide entry-level lifeguard participants with the knowledge and skills to prevent, recognize and respond to aquatic emergencies. It also trains the participants to provide professional-level care for breathing and cardiac emergencies, injuries and sudden illnesses until emergency medical services personnel take over.
The RecPlex teaches the American Red Cross Blended Learning Lifeguard course which has seven hours of online instruction and twenty hours of in-person instruction.
Students must be at least 15 years old on or before the final scheduled session of the course. Participants must pass the Washington Township Pre-Skills Test in order to take the Lifeguard course. The Pre-Skills Test occurs on the first day of class. Registration includes the $15 fee for the Pre-Skills Test.
