CPR & Other Classes for the Public


Cardio-Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) is a critical skill that can be learned by almost anyone to protect the lives of loved ones or friends.


The Washington Township Fire Department is certified to teach the courses described below. Click on a course name to see class dates, times, locations, cost, and registration information.

Heartsaver CPR AED

The Heartsaver CPR AED course trains participants to give CPR and use an automated external defibrillator (AED) in a safe, timely, and effective manner. The course is designed for anyone with little or no medical training who needs a course completion card for their job, regulatory, or other requirements.

Heartsaver First Aid CPR AED

The Heartsaver First Aid CPR AED course trains participants to provide first aid, CPR, and use an automated external defibrillator (AED) in a safe, timely, and effective manner. The course is designed for anyone with little or no medical training who needs a course completion card for their job or other requirements, or for anyone who wants to be prepared for an emergency in any setting.

Basic Life Support for Healthcare Providers

The Basic Life Support course is designed for healthcare professionals and others who need to know how to perform CPR and other basic cardiovascular life support skills in a wide variety of in-facility and pre-hospital settings (EMT, RN, MD, DO, nursing students, or nurse assistants). Instruction includes adult, child, and infant CPR, as well as AED instruction.

Stop the Bleed

Participants in the Stop the Bleed course will learn how to recognize life-threatening bleeding and act quickly and effectively to control it with three quick techniques. The course will empower you to make a life-or-death difference when a bleeding emergency happens.

Safe Sitter

The Safe Sitter course is designed for participants in grades 6-8 who would like to start babysitting. Students will learn the following:

  • Safety Skills: Students learn how to prevent unsafe situations and what to do when faced with danger such as power failures or weather emergencies.

  • Child Care Skills: Students learn tips to manage behavior that will help them stay in control of themselves and the children in their care. Students also learn the ages and stages of child development, as well as practice diapering.

  • First Aid & Rescue Skills: Learning skills such as choking rescue and CPR is often students' favorite part of the class. Students also learn a system to help them assess and respond to injuries and illnesses.

  • Life & Business Skills: The ability to screen jobs, discuss fees, and greet employers will set students up for success now and in the future. Students practice these skills through various role plays.

Registration
The next Safe Sitter course will take place on August 3-4, 2026, from 8 am-12:15 pm each day, at the Washington Township Fire Department Training Center, 8320 McEwen Road, Dayton, OH 45458. Other Classes
