Community Service Awards

Washington Township Community Service Award

Each year, Washington Township recognizes two Centerville High School seniors whose commitment to service reflects the best of our community.

Community Service Award recipients receive a proclamation, public recognition, and a $1,000 scholarship to support their education. Funding comes from Washington Township’s four elected officials, the Centerville High School National Honor Society, Washington Township, and Judy Blair — given in memory of her husband, Terry Blair, a former Township trustee and Ohio General Assembly member.

Township Trustees established the Community Service Award in 2003 to highlight the value of public service and honor outstanding student volunteers. Each year, advisors for Centerville High School’s Interact Club, Key Club, National Honor Society, and Octagon Club select two students who best represent a commitment to local, national, or international service.

Barrett LeMaster

Allison Milner has served with several community organizations, with memorable experiences as a volunteer camp counselor, at a dinner event for Brigid’s Path, and working with the Centerville High School Student Council to raise $101,000 during last fall’s Spirit Chain, an annual fundraising competition between Centerville and Kettering Fairmont students.

"I am so grateful to receive this scholarship, but more importantly, I am thankful that I have been able to give back to my community through acts of service and kindness," Milner said.

Her teachers and coaches describe Milner as driven, outgoing, and genuinely passionate about everything she takes on. She serves as Senior Class Vice President, Co-Captain of the Varsity Dance Team, a Key Club member, and a dedicated student in the Early Childhood Education Program.

"Allie’s desire to give back and dedication to service work is part of what makes her so special!" said Key Club Advisor Christine Yokajty.

Milner plans to attend Miami University to pursue a major in primary education and a minor in Spanish.

Most of Zachariah Moushon’s volunteer experience has been gained through Kettering SDA Church, where he has assisted with childcare, Vacation Bible School, videography and directing church livestreams, and musical activities. He also has volunteered with National Honor Society, Centerville athletic teams, and United Rehabilitation Services, including a memorable turn as the organization’s duck mascot.

“Earning this scholarship gives me the motivation to continue the works of community service and personal development into the future, even beyond college,” Moushon said. “Thank you Washington Township for this award and for being a beautiful place my family has been able to call home for more than two decades!”

He plans to study nursing at The Ohio State University, with a potential minor in French Language and Culture.

National Honor Society Advisor Ken Barrett said they were happy to nominate Moushon for the Community Service Award.

“Zach embodies the idea of a servant leader,” Barrett said. “He is quick to throw his hand up and say, ‘I will do it,’ and his charismatic spirit gets everyone else to follow along. Zach has made a positive impact on both his school and the broader Centerville community through his work with NHS.”
