Citizen boards and commissions are vital to the operation of Washington Township. The township's four citizen boards advise and rule on matters related to zoning and development, support and advise officials and staff on recreation services, and help to beautify the local community.
Zoning Commission
The five-member commission reviews all zoning changes and recommends a decision to township trustees. Members are appointed to overlapping five-year terms and meet on every third Tuesday at 7 p.m.
Board of Zoning Appeals
This judicial body rules on variances and conditional uses and on interpretations of the zoning resolution and zoning inspector. Members are appointed to overlapping five-year terms and meet at 7 p.m. on the second and fourth Monday.
Visual Improvement Program
The VIP Committee helps ensure preservation of the natural beauty present in the township. Projects include overseeing public flower plantings, visual improvement awards, Christmas decorations and other beautification activities. Recreation Advisory Board
The board acts as a liaison between citizens, staff and township trustees, reviewing facility concerns and making recommendations to trustees. The board includes members from other public entities and citizens who serve four-year overlapping terms. Meetings are on the third Thursday of odd months at 5:30 p.m. in the RecPlex
