The Washington Township Board of Trustees recently adopted Home Rule Resolution HR2025-003, a new measure to help ensure the privacy, safety, and comfort of Township residents by regulating door-to-door solicitation by transient vendors.
Under this new resolution, anyone wishing to engage in temporary door-to-door sales or solicitations within the unincorporated areas of the Township is now required to register with Washington Township and pay a $50 annual registration fee before conducting business.
To register through the OpenGov portal, please use this link and navigate to the Economic Development Department card.
This new rule does not apply to individuals representing tax-exempt organizations (as defined under Section 5709.04 of the Ohio Revised Code) or those licensed under Ohio’s auctioneer laws (Chapter 4707 of the Revised Code).
What Is a Transient Vendor?
A transient vendor is defined as any person who:
- Opens a temporary place of business for selling goods, or
- Travels about the township selling goods, taking orders, or arranging sales appointments.
How To Avoid Unwanted Solicitation
Residents now have a simple way to avoid unwanted solicitation. By displaying a sign such as “No Soliciting” in a visible location, you can lawfully prevent solicitors from approaching your home or business. The regulation also prohibits vendors from entering premises marked with such signage or from obstructing public ways and private property. No Soliciting stickers are available for free (while supplies last) at the Washington Township Government Center, 8200 McEwen Road.
